Our Monsters

In this case I'm going to raise a frightening idea about our creations and how these ones could make us harm, just like in the famous story Frankenstein.

Which creations am i talking about? What could be so dangerous?

First is necessary to clarify a big and incredible mistake that helps us understand better: Frankenstein was not the monster, Frankenstein was the creator of this epic monster. The monster has never had a name, such was the contempt he suffered. It was so horrible that its first breath caused the Victor Frankenstein's anguish, he only could run away and that was the reason why the monster become in a killer. He was never loved.

Frankenstein spent many months working in his obsessive idea of bringing life from death. He robbed graves and different parts from dead bodies and stole bones and organs. He had chosen its face as a beautiful but how wrong he was. The creature was very tall, his teeth were white and perfect, but these things made the rest of him seem even more horrible, the skin was thin and yellow and barely covered what was underneath it.

Victor Frankenstein rejected it. Not happen the same with our creations. These ones are not unpleasant like the monster. Our creation is the technology, like the Artificial intelligence (A.I.): the science and ingenuity of making intelligent machines, especially intelligent computer programs” (John McCarthy, 1956). But the technology isn't hideous, it's better than the monster. It's the best humanity´s creation after the wheel.

The movie “I Robot” shows us a future where we live in complete harmony with intelligent robots because they are governed by the three laws of robotics that protect us from any harm, those laws were created, maybe, to prevent humankind suffering Frankenstein. Nevertheless there is always a mistake in the creation process.

The technology can destroy us or enslave us for that mistake, we can see it in so many other movies like “Terminator”, “Matrix” even “Resident evil” where a terrifying girl, who is actually a projection of artificial intelligence, catches everyone in a giant underground tunnel with zombies.

That could mean the despair of the human race, even the madness like Jhon Conor’s mother, and also remember the victor´s sickness after knowing about his brother's murder.

Just observe people using their cell phones for long hours, waiting for a notification, waiting for the lastest nintendo's version or waiting, like me, for a robot in the house. The question is: do we use technology or does technology use us?
