I'm going to tell you about my vacation, it wasn't really amazing but it was important for me because I understood the nature's power and learned to take care of myself, I mean, I was in trouble and I'm going to tell you why.
I traveled to Guamo, Tolima. On this pleace there are so many rivers and they are magnificent but between May and July it is rainy season, I knew it, nevertheless I didn't care.
I was not going alone, my friend was a pretty girl, she and I decided to camp near the river. It was shining.
I remember that she told me if it rains for over an hour, the river could be dangerous but it didn't rain untill very late when we were already overcome by sleep. When I began to dream, my partner said that she seemed to hear the river very close, to reassure her I opened the tent and looked out to see.
¡The river was right there! Quickly I told her to take out from there the bags and suitcases. She was so scared and I couldn't believe what was going on.
We got out and left the stuff in another safe place; when I wanted to go back to the tent it was gone. Everything happened in seconds.

-If you use the word 'side' it is better to say "of the country" after, because the sentence is kind of weak. Or you could use the word 'place' instead.
-When you say "she and I decided to camp near river" it is a place that you already mentioned before, so a 'the' before 'river' is OK.
-Remember the mark '¡' exists only in Spanish, not in English.
How dangerous your story sounds! You could be taken by the river if you wouldn't be awake! Good job.
